Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Dawn Bates

Making sure students have the tools they need to make their dreams a reality is Mrs. Dawn Lynn Norma Bates.  She was born in 1971 and likes to celebrate her birthday on October 20th.  Joining her in her family is her grandmother, Norma Orth, husband, Jeffrey, son, Collin, future daughter in law, Farrah and grandson, Kaiden.  Also included in their family are their dogs, Brittany and Abby, rabbits, Cheese and Harley and cat, Buster.

She acquired her teaching degree at the Alvernia University, Reading, Pennsylvania.  She is in her 18th year of teaching all subjects to the special education K to 5th grade students.  She believes her students would be shocked to find out that she loves fast cars and riding on the motorcycle with her husband.

Her favorite thing to do for enjoyment is cooking, gardening and crafting.

Some of her favorites are:

  • The color black, if talking about clothing because it hides extra fluffiness and aquamarine for anything else because she loves light blue green colors.
  • She loves all kinds of food but right now it would be lemon cream pasta with panko crusted chicken.
  • Book would be almost anything she reads.  She loves books, particularly in the fantasy genre.
  • Movies would be "Mission to Mars", "The Fifth Element, all "Harry Potter" movies and "The Twilight Saga."
  • Song is too hard because there are just too many.
  • Sport is NASCAR Racing.
  • Sports team is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Her special thing about teaching are the students of course, there is nothing more magical than a student really understanding what they are learning.

She shared, "I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 4th grade.  My son inspired me to be the kind of teacher I am today.'

Mrs. Bates, thank you for all that you do!
